Last Week of Essays...for a while

Hey guys,

I regret to inform you that this week is our last week of essays that we'll be writing for a while. I have to catch myself up with the grading, and I can't keep assigning you topics, and I'm still not finished grading them. I know you can relate to the time it takes to read one from our lab days, so imagine reading 80 of them. I hope you're not terribly upset, but I had to make this tough decision.

Don't worry, we will still have lab days on Thursday's. They will be a little different in the next half of the semester, but we will still have them. Stay tunned this Thursday for a pre-view of how they will function after we come back from our 4-day weekend.

If you have questions, please post them here. Don't forget that the final drafts are still due this Thursday no matter what. Thanks for understanding. :)

Change in our Weekly Schedule

Hey guys,

As you may already know, there has been a change in our weekly schedule next week to accomodate your AP Human quiz and test. Please note that on Monday 9/28, we are having a review for your AP Human vocab words from page 97. We will still have current events that day, but we will not have time to discuss our LA topic. Tuesday 9/29, we will have our "Hero" discussion, and our discussion on Perseus. Please be ready to discuss these things as Wednesdy - Friday will flow as normal. Have a great weekend, and don't forget to check the website for your Greek/Latin Root words, and info on your upcoming project.

Rain, Rain...

Good afternoon students:

I hope all is well and that you all are safe from the storm. In case you're checking in today, here's what we would have done in class and what I would like you to do this evening if you're able, so that we won't have to play too much of the catch-up game.

I. Research the names, roles, powers/dominions of the 12 major Greek gods and goddesses.

II. Read the story of Perseus in your literature book if you have it. (you may find it online)

III. Be familiar with the story and the above information regarding the gods/goddesses so that we can have a meaningful discussion in class on Tuesday.

IV. Continue defining your Greek and Latin roots for this week in prepartion for the homework check on Wednesday.

V. Current events will be discussed and presented Tuesday. (If you were scheduled to present on Monday, you will now present on Tuesday) Be prepared with your summary and article attached.

Hey GSMST,

I just wanted to let you know that the study guide for the short story test is uploaded now. You can find it on the calendar if you click on the space. This guide is not mandatory, but it is recommended considering a test is a "major" grade. If you have questions, you know to post them, and I'll do my best to answer them as soon as I can. Current Events

Hey guys,

Current events are starting this coming Monday, September 14th. I will upload on the webpage which students will be presenting on Monday. Here is where I will tell you how I'd like it done.

Basically, look for an article in the inernational section of the newspaper and attach it to a typed or hand-written summary of the article. You will be responsible for addressing the class to inform them of the information you found(give them the gist, like a news anchor would), but the summary and article have to be turned in to me stapled together with your name and such on it. It would be great if the article has to do with places you are discussing in AP Human, but that may not be the case all the time. The news source can be as old as a week ago, but no older than that. We want current news. I can't wait to see and hear about what's going on in the world around us. Of course if there are questions, please post them here.

Final Drafts

Hey guys,

Now is the time to post which essay topic you are going to select for your final draft. Don't forget that this is now a "major grade", and it's worth 40%. I suggest having it severely editied by one of your former LA teachers, or someone you trust. Unfortunately, I can't edit them for you because I'm giving the final grade.
