Last Week of Essays...for a while

Hey guys,

I regret to inform you that this week is our last week of essays that we'll be writing for a while. I have to catch myself up with the grading, and I can't keep assigning you topics, and I'm still not finished grading them. I know you can relate to the time it takes to read one from our lab days, so imagine reading 80 of them. I hope you're not terribly upset, but I had to make this tough decision.

Don't worry, we will still have lab days on Thursday's. They will be a little different in the next half of the semester, but we will still have them. Stay tunned this Thursday for a pre-view of how they will function after we come back from our 4-day weekend.

If you have questions, please post them here. Don't forget that the final drafts are still due this Thursday no matter what. Thanks for understanding. :)

~Mrs. Glenn

  4. Okay, so we just need to do the final drafts for the essays that we did over the past three weeks. Just a quick question on the AP Human Topic for the map, can we do it on the computer and type in arrows to wher the person went and type in the there mode of transportation or do we have to draw the map by hand? I already it by the computer because if it draw it by hand it will not look like earth anymore.

  5. it doesnt specify so i guess it doesnt matter

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wait... so we just pick one topic right? Or do we do final drafts for all the essays?? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  9. for the comic strip, will we have more time to read the story or is that it?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes, I think we will have more time to read tomorrow in class or something. We don't even have a due date for it yet which probably means just keep working on it in class.

  11. Can some be a superstar and tell me about this comic strip? It would be greatly appreciated! =)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  16. hey mrs. Glenn, do we have to give back those papers on the trojan war and fall of troy, if so can we give them back after the weekend. Thnaks alot, i know your probably busy but you still have time to help.

  17. hi, i just want to clarify something, is our interview essay one that we can turn in?

    ReplyDelete

  20. Ohhh btwww,,
for the comic strips, can we draw them on computer and print them?
or does it HAVE to be hand-drawn?

I was thinking that I sketched them on computer and then color them by hand :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. To Jun Ha:

Another person in my class asked that question on Thursday. Ms. Glenn said no. You can only draw the boxes for the comic strip on the computer, but you must hand draw the pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Does anyone have the purple paper to the trojan war I need it to complete the second comic strip and the outline. By the way are we turning in the outline?

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Danish Mrs. Glenn has copies of the stories on her website right above the Greek and Latin root words

    ReplyDelete
  24. and you dont need 2 turn in the outline

    ReplyDelete
  25. Do the 2 strips for the comic strips have to be 6 boxes each?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mrs. Glenn, I was wondering if I could exceed twelve frames to fit the whole story onto the comic strip, but if I can't then that is okay, I will be able to manage. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  27. ohhhh
another question came up with me :)
ocan some frames bigger than other frames?
because I think i might have some scenees that could be bigger than other scenes...
    thank youuu :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. @navjot: she said to keep it at 12
@jun ha: that would seem fine

    ReplyDelete
  29. Okay, thanks Payam for the help :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. no one answered my question.. :'(
again, anyone know what type of paper it has to be on? is it standarized computer paper or poster board size or something else? and all we have to turn is two 12framed comic strips, correct?

thanks a bunch to whoever is going to answer :)

    -Stephanie Moon

  31. Ok, I'm confused. So each story has to be 12 boxes? I don't remember, or could have forgot, anything from class that inplicated that we needed 12 boxes for each story. Well, I'm confused about the assignment in general.

So is it 6 per story or 12? I'm also worried about the rubric; where is it? Is there any special format, any sort of template we need to follow? Can it be in any size paper like legal? I just want to make sure I have everything down to the dot. :(
    Finally, is it due Tuesday?

    ReplyDelete
  32. David: It's 12 per story so there'll be 24 squares put together. And yeahhh you can use regular paper, and it IS due on Tuesday :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Does anyone know if we have to turn in our outline?

    ReplyDelete
  34. You don't need to turn in the outline....it's just for us to use to make the comic strips

    ReplyDelete
  35. On the calender--its under wenesday, so i think its due on wenesday now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ummm.. are you sure it's due on Wednesday? And we have to color it also, right?

    ReplyDelete
  37. i think it is still due tuesday.... i dont see any changes on her website that says it is due on wednesday

    ReplyDelete
  38. can the title take up one of the boxes?

    ReplyDelete
  39. @ Urvashi & Sarina-- If you open the link to the words on the calendar, the word doc says "This list is due Wednesday, October 14th."

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Nizar: I think they thought u were talking about the comic strip.

    ReplyDelete
  41. it is ok
    thanks for helping anyway

    ReplyDelete
  42. what do we do if we dont have a book dictioary at home?

    ReplyDelete
  43. for the wordmasters can we type it and then paste it onto the index card (cuz thats wat the probe class was required to do last year) or does it have to be handwritten????

    ReplyDelete
  44. has to be handwritten, or at least thats what she said

    ReplyDelete
  45. ugh but i typed most of it on my computer already :(

    ReplyDelete
  46. does it matter how the comic strip is organized, like 3by 4 or 2 by 6 ?

    ReplyDelete
  47. @maliha- someone asked that in out class, and she said no.

@gena- I don't think it matters what the dimensions are--as long as it fits one sheet of paper

    ReplyDelete
  48. Absolutely hilarious!!! You guys crack me up!! ROFL!! First of all, thanks to all who helped answer the questions of your peers...good looking out! Second, I'll try to clear up some things as well.

    1. Comic strips are due Tuesday (tomorrow). The need to be able to fit on one page (computer paper). The size of the squares don't matter, as long as you have 12 squares. If you need to make a few more than 12, that's fine. but please don't make more than 14.
    2. The copies of the stories (Trojan War, and Fall of Troy) are on my home page for those who still don't know that. :)
    3. Wordmasters words are due Wednesday on index cards, and they should be HAND WRITTEN...not typed. You will not receive any credit if they are typed. BTW, dictionaries can be found in the library or book stores. The internet only gives skimmpy definitions. You'll need more than a skimmy definition to compete in WORDMASTERS.
    3. Thursday is our writing lab again. My advisment team has given me some good ideas...I'll share them with you on Thursday.
    4. Friday is Culture Day!! I can't wait to see your displays and presentations!! Who's making Kimchi?? (did I spell that right?)

    ReplyDelete
  49. so we need at least 12 squares or at least 12 pictures?

    ReplyDelete
  50. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Does the comic strip scenes have to cover the whole story or can they cover part of the story??

    ReplyDelete
  52. @payam- 12 squares, i guess u could make 13 for the title square

@Lamia- I think they cover the whole story

    ReplyDelete
  53. Come on, this is just too many questions. Haven't you guys ever done comic strips in middle school before? I need 12 frames with pics in each frame. You need a small caption or something that tells me what's going on in the frame, and it needs to be colored.

Cover the whole story as much as you can, I know some details will be left out because you're only working with 12 frames. Just be as accurate as possible. It's like a summary using pictures. It's really not that hard...you have notes, and you have the packets uploaded to the website. You can do it!!

  54. I hate to ask more questions, but is it ok if there's blood in the pictures? I tried to not make it TOO bloody, but there's a ton of fighting and stuff in the stories. XD

    ReplyDelete
  55. do we have to color the pictures on our comic strip? @nerdy: (grr) i would guess that it has to be school appropriate; think about movies like narnia or austin powers, where there is fighting but not really blood (although i doubt austin powers is school appropriate)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Mrs. Glenn is it okay if we have some stick figures as the army or side characters? I am sorry if I am bothering you and see you tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  57. @nerdy: as long as you dont over do it, the blood technically is color.

    ReplyDelete
  58. so we do have to color it?

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ gena: Yes we have to color it and if you scroll up then you will see that in Mrs.Glenn's reply/comments it says that the comic strip has to be colored and 12 to 14 frames long, which will represent the story that you have read.

    ReplyDelete
  60. @ ppl: you guys are asking soo many questions..
and i dont think they can be stick figures. just try to draw as best as you can and hope that it won't be horrible :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Payam, by any chance do you know if we can use stick figures as side characters, because they are not that important to the story? Please respond soon, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  62. @stephaine: in class she said thay can be stick figures

    ReplyDelete
  63. oh noes
-_- i already finished my first comic strip, but i didnt know it was suppose to fit on one page....

its 3 pages long :((((( and it took me A LOT of time to draw it allll...what should i DOOOO? :(
    omygosh i'm totally doomed =-=

    ReplyDelete
  64. idk, cut and paste the important 1s?

    ReplyDelete
  65. It doesnt take long, You could make another one really quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  66. =-= but its a waste of my drawings :((
i dont wanna just "throw it: away T_T

agdlakh ugh it took me like,3 days to do it ;(

    ReplyDelete
  67. U could hang it on ur wall, or your fridge...
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. @Jun Ha: Honestly, if you had already done it, i don't think she'll be angry or take points off. (I did it on a sheet of comic paper, so I have the same problem)
Yeah, I only did a little blood. But there's suicide, death, slaughter, and many other bloody things, so I couldn't really avoid blood. I didn't use much, so I hope it'll be ok. ):

    ReplyDelete
  69. Too cute!! Remind me to thank you guys later for being sooo nice to one another. JunHa, turn in what you have. I will probably have to take a few points off though. Please don't do the whole thing over!! (I'm sure it looks great!)

Yes, guys, I know it's a war, but try to make it as "school appropriate" as possible. I'm displaying them.

Oh yeah, stick figures in the background is okay...you're right they are not main characters. :)

    You guys ROCK!!

    Mrs. G.

    ReplyDelete
  70. aww.. I did them all as Stick guys... i can't draw
    :(

    ReplyDelete
