Current Events

Hey guys,

Current events are starting this coming Monday, September 14th. I will upload on the webpage which students will be presenting on Monday. Here is where I will tell you how I'd like it done.
Basically, look for an article in the inernational section of the newspaper and attach it to a typed or hand-written summary of the article. You will be responsible for addressing the class to inform them of the information you found(give them the gist, like a news anchor would), but the summary and article have to be turned in to me stapled together with your name and such on it. It would be great if the article has to do with places you are discussing in AP Human, but that may not be the case all the time. The news source can be as old as a week ago, but no older than that. We want current news. I can't wait to see and hear about what's going on in the world around us. Of course if there are questions, please post them here.
Mrs. G.

  1. So this is related to AP Human Geography in terms of the places we talk about in the class not what we talk about those places for example, we are talking about population and some countries that were talked about were Japan so we could do stuff on Japan but not have to do the report on the population of Japan, right?

  2. For the window project, are you going to give us the short story to do or are we going to pick it?

  3. I think, I maybe wrong, she said that she would put up a list of people who had to do it on her website but I though it was due for those people on that list on Monday September 11 2009

    ReplyDelete
  4. yea she said she would do that...
But if we do a current event right now and our name isn't on the list for Monday September 14, would we have to redo the current event since t would be considered old by the time we present it?

  5. on her "website" as in this blog or her site on gsmst.org?????

  7. Mrs. Glenn did say that she would give us a list of people who she wanted us to do the current events. But what if we don't have a newspaper? Should we just get it off the internet or off the TV?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I am pretty sure you have to get it from a reliable source which would be on the internet because tv media is very opinionated. Also Raveena's right where is the link going to be?
I need to know soon because I do not want to know I am doing it on a Saturday night and also can we make a powerpoint along with it and have a typed report. Do we need to have an electronic copy or printed copy. My guess is just printed but does anyone else know???????????

  9. Also Mrs. Glenn on the short story project for our window what is the size of a regular postar board and do we have to draw a character in the window? It doesn't explain clearly and is the rubic the document online that tells the guidlines and points awarded for everything. Also do we need to tell you are story ahead of time like Oreva said.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I have no idea what the "short story project for our window" people are talking about now... Ms.Glenn, did you talk about this project in 4th period?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Its on her website page before class blog. She did not talk about it in school since we were busy taking the quizzes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I am so confused. Where is the link that tells u the people who have the current events? And like Oreva said, do we choose the story, or are you assigning it to us mrs. glenn???

    ReplyDelete
  13. so this is the fourth time i try to post becuase the internet on my laptop is bad...anyway..
question: can we get the article on line? and when are we going to know who has to do it? and i'm confuzzled: what window project???

  14. Um... for the window project, can we work with people who are in different classes? And... where IS that link?

    ReplyDelete
  15. The project rubric is on her GSMST website--not the class calender, the website. It's right above the link for the blog.

Ms. Glenn, can we work with people from other classes on the project? :D

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey, Mrs. Glenn!! This is so confusing to me.. could you please explain this with more clearity?? Thanks so much, have a great weekend!!:)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  19. Mrs. Glenn I also want to know the link for the current events, and could you clarify the windows project for me?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Mrs. Glenn is it ok if we use the internet as source for our current events news? Please respond soon.. thanks

    ReplyDelete
  21. wait navjot do you see the link?!

    ReplyDelete

  26. where's the link??? and i also dont understand the short story project

    ReplyDelete

  28. You guys are the BEST students ever!! I love the conversation you're having on here. Thanks Danish for taking the lead and helping everyone understand everything. I will try to answer everyone's questions. The Window Project assignment page is on the GSMST Website at the bottom. Yes, it's regular poster size, and yes, the character of choice has to fit. Remember a window has panes. You can divide it into four panes. Also, the current events don't have to be about populaiton and such, but rather the places you're discussing. I will allow newspaper, or internet sources that are ligitmate. Danish was right about some sources not being so "credible" (vocab word) LOL! Anway, I will post up (on the GSMST teacher webpage)who will be presenting in each class shortly. Remember, it's just three people a week. If you any other questions, please write, and if you ever feel that your question is urgent, email me. I hope this clears up things for you.

  29. One more thing I just noticed, and forgot to address. If you work with someone on the project, I don't mind if it's a person from another class period. That will be fine as long as each person puts his/her name on it, and class period. Thanks guys.

  30. It's like the game called "telephone", you start off saying one thing, and by the time it reaches the last person, the thing you said is totally different. Okay, I've posted on my web page the people responsible for the current events. Also, if you can't open the Short Story project page, I'll have copies on Monday, and I'll answer any questions you still may have. Don't worry, you have time, it's due on Friday the 18th. I've also uploaded Quiz #5 to the calendar page. TTYL guys.

  31. hi mrs glenn...
i was wondering how long the current event's summnary has to be

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thank you so much Mrs. Glenn you have really cleared many doubts and questions from my head! Thanks so much have a great Sunday!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. thanks a million. I got the rubric opened. See you on maonday! ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  34. if our names arent on your list do we still do a current event?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't get it. Does everyone have to do the current event project?

    ReplyDelete
  36. eh.. mkay, so i read all the comments here,, but i still have question on the short story project... if you're working with somebody, does that mean you can use one poster for 2 people, or does that mean that you still have to use one poster for each person? ._.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You can get one poster per "gfroup" im thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mrs. Glenn, I was sick for the past couple of days so I wasn't able to follow this discussion, but is this current events project due tomorrow, even though only 3 people per period per week are presenting? BTW, I was able to get the window pane project rubric. Thanks and see you tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, Mrs. Glenn, do we HAVE to have panes? And um, Ji and I already started the project, but we noticed that the rubric said 'to be assigned.' So should we still continue with the short story we are doing (we're doing the short story "The Rules of the Game" by Amy Tan) or should we just follow the story that you're going to assign? Also, what does it really mean by time period? The time period as in the year or as if it is night or day or both? Along with that, what if the scene that we're doing has only two of the characters? Should we add all the other characters into the scene as well even though they aren't in that particular scene?
Thank you and have a good Sunday! :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh yes, and do we have a quiz on the vocab roots tomorrow? Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thank you Mrs. Glenn for telling me everything. See you tommorow!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hii Mrs Glenn,
    this is Aadithya
i am assigned to do the current events on this monday. but my family moved into a new house on this weekend so we dont subscribe newspapers. so can i use internet and take current events from newspapapers online, and add the URL????

    ReplyDelete
  43. @ Stacey: We have the quiz on cred, jud, jus, jur on wednesday (we're doing current events on monday)& I'm pretty sure you don't need to include all the characters, I think...

@Mrs.Glenn: So we only need one scene for a window, am I correct? Or is it supposed to be different scenes for each of the panes?

    ReplyDelete
  44. ok ill do the current events for tomorrow...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Okay, all good contributions. Current events is not a project. Only the students assigned one for tomorrow will need to do one. All I need is the article, and a summary of the article that includes how it relates to what you're studying in AP Human attached. I will have an example of the Window project tomorrow for you to see what I'm talking about. If you've already started on it, stop, and wait until you see the example to make sure you're headed in the right direction. Also, one poster per group. Thanks Stephanie for clearing things up for Stacey. Which Stephanie are you BTW??

@Aadi, yes, the URL will be fine.

Have a great rest of your night guys, and I'll see you tomorrow.

    Mrs. G.

    ReplyDelete
  51. oh yeaa......by the wayyy,,,,,,,

i just really had to make sure.. :O
    please say i cannnnnn :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. For the window project, if we do it with a partner, do we each have to have an essay or just one in total?

    ReplyDelete
  53. oh wait, is it that Human Geography one?

    ReplyDelete
  54. -Gena thats probably right. I dont believe we have to type it. Just as long as you know the content. : )

-Rachel: I would imagine that you would just do one essay for the both of you. It would be pretty redundant both of you do write the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Good looking out Brian. That's right, only one per project/group. I'll be posting the students for the new few weeks very soon. Thanks guys,

    Mrs. G.

  56. Ms. Glenn, when are we finding out who is doing current events?!?! I don't have any time tomorrow to do it. Unless I stay up all night. And I really don't wanna do that..... So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... Post who is doing current events this week. And I don't get newspaper, and don't know where exactly to go to find "current" events that are like international and stuff.....
    -priscilla yi

    ReplyDelete
  57. to find international current events, try the websites of big news companies such as cnn and bbc and they should have a section labeled global or international or something like that

    ReplyDelete
  58. and mrs glenn, not to be disrespectful, but some people need to get their homework done before sunday because they have other things to do, so plz post the current events before sunday..

    ReplyDelete
  59. Did any of you find the essay prompts on the shared drive? I looked at around 4:20 on Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  60. She sadi the essay prompts would be posted online with the people who have to do current events.

    ReplyDelete
  61. @Prima: The prompts are under next thursday on the calendar.

    ReplyDelete
  62. have the current events people been posted yet? i cant find them...

    ReplyDelete
  63. the current events are on her teacher page (not the blog), on the first page near the bottom.

    ReplyDelete
  64. ...for current events, if your name is on there after the comma, does that mean u have to do it for next week? not this week?

    ReplyDelete
  65. thats a good question that i would also like the answer to, junha :]]

    ReplyDelete
  66. haha i know..but seriously, ms glenn, do i have to do it for tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Jun Ha if your name is one of the first three then yes but if it is not then I guess next week. I am pretty sure this is correct beccause she did say we would do three a week =)
