Rain, Rain...

Good afternoon students:

I hope all is well and that you all are safe from the storm. In case you're checking in today, here's what we would have done in class and what I would like you to do this evening if you're able, so that we won't have to play too much of the catch-up game.

I. Research the names, roles, powers/dominions of the 12 major Greek gods and goddesses.

II. Read the story of Perseus in your literature book if you have it. (you may find it online)

III. Be familiar with the story and the above information regarding the gods/goddesses so that we can have a meaningful discussion in class on Tuesday.

IV. Continue defining your Greek and Latin roots for this week in prepartion for the homework check on Wednesday.

V. Current events will be discussed and presented Tuesday. (If you were scheduled to present on Monday, you will now present on Tuesday) Be prepared with your summary and article attached.

{If you have any further questions, feel free to utilize the blog to communicate your concerns or questions with me}

Have a great rest of your soggy Monday! :)

Ms. G

  1. Mrs. Glenn,
There are 6 names for each period, so could you clarify who goes when?

    ReplyDelete
  2. I think the 1st 3 are for the 21st and the 2nd 3 are for the current events

    ReplyDelete
  3. that wat i was thinking, but then junha said it might be the ones before the comma on each row are for the 21st, so idk

    ReplyDelete
  4. On the interview essay does our conclusion have to be 2-3 paragraphs. This would make our essay seven paragraphs long. I am just making sure because I do not want points taken off for not writing in the correct format.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Mrs. Glenn, when is the AP writing assignment due?? Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well I would just do it any way because if your name is on the list and you have to do it next week you just did your work early, although it would go to waste if your article was not written today or yesterday because then it would be more than a week old. I suggest emailing Mrs. Glenn.

  8. mines the 1st on the list so i did it anywayXD

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanx! And... for the writing assignment, what if two people together made the decision to move? Should we include both people? Or just one?

    ReplyDelete
  10. only the on ur interviewing, but id include the fact that there were 2 people together moving

    ReplyDelete
  11. Mrs. Glenn, would you like us to print our research out or just save them to our laptops?? ALso what format would you like to have. Like, is it okay if we just put some bullets down under each god/ goddess's name?? Thank you and have a great soggy, rainy day...:)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Mrs. Glenn,
since theres no school 2morrow either, could u post up tomorrows work also.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well, there are actually 4 people moving...
Navjot: Print? or just write it out, because I don't think we'll really turn it in with the computers... And that's what I did too... xD

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hope everyone's doing all right on this floody day :)We're going to have a lot of work in all the classes when we come back!!
Anyways, I'm searching "Perseus" on Google right now, and there are several stories named "Perseus" by different writers. So does anyone know who it's by? I'm thinking it's either Edith Hamilton or Benvenuto Cellini (or maybe Alice Low).

    ReplyDelete
  15. Do we even have school tomorrow? I was watching the news and it said Gwinnett County Schools are closed.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey guys, I love it when you help each other out. Thanks Danish, Payam, Oreva and Stacey!! You guys rock!! Yep, there's no school tomorrow either. Perseus is written by Edith Hamilton, and the current events are posted in 3's. The first three going down the page (on the left side of the comma) go first, and the next three (on the right side of the comma) go last. Also, our essay prompts are always due on Thursdays. They can be typed or hand-written, but we must have them in our hands to edit them. Interview only one person, but if you need to refer to someone else as an influence in their move, you can. I hope this helps everyone. Enjoy your time off.

    Mrs. Glenn

  17. For the interview do we write our name, then the question, then hit enter and put the interviewee's name and answer?

    ReplyDelete
  18. thanks for the clarification Mrs. Glenn.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @ maliha: the rubric says to put it as sort of a essay/story

    ReplyDelete
  20. oh ok thx. and its due thursday right?

    ReplyDelete
  21. For the essay, I don't really know any people well who have moved here from another country, but can I use someone who has been here on a visa since I've met them?

  23. So when will the people after the comma present?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Umm, Mrs.Glenn, I don't really know anyone who has moved here from another country. You said to ask you when we saw you if we didn't know anybody, but since that won't be until Wednesday, what do you want us to do? I mean, my Dad moved to Georgia from Clifornia, which is far, but I don't know really anyone who has moved across a country border.( This is Jeremy, btw)

    ReplyDelete
  31. For the research on the gods, which ones do you want us to do. On different websites there are different "Top 12s". Some are reacuring, but others are not.

    ReplyDelete
  32. thx for the link to the story payam :)
it helps a lot to no wat story to read

    ReplyDelete
  33. oh and do we do the reaearch in our composition book or do u want us to type it up and print it out?

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Rachel here is the website that i used for the 12 major greek gods and godesses if its any help http://gogreece.about.com/cs/mythology/a/olympiangods.htm

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey guys,

lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. I wanted you to look up the Greek gods and godesses because we were going to discuss them this week. I just wanted you to be familiar with them. It's not formal researching, just becoming familiar. We were gonna do this is class anyway. If you can't find someone who moved from another contry, just interview someone who has moved a long distance. I think the idea of it all is migration, and I know you've discussed that migration can be as simple as moving from the north to the south. Thank you guys for taking charge of your academics, and checking the blog. It means a lot to see the conversaitons between you. Tomorrow, we'll probably do some discussion of some things before we look at the Greek and Latin roots...I will probably do a HW check instead of the quiz, so make sure your words are defined...remember it's all or nothing in the gradebook. We will be taking an LA pre-test on Friday instead of our weekly quiz. TTYL,

    Mrs. G.

  36. I love Greek Mythology :]] It's my favorite thing to learn!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have a question about the paper we are supposed to be writing. So if we hand write it out, the essay part, do we have to wrie all the interview questions on a separate sheet, or is that only if you want to turn it in for a final grade? I wrote the interview answers on the computer, but I'm planning to write the essay out by hand, if i do that, will I have to print out the q & A from the interview separatly?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mrs.Glenn, are we going to turn this essay to you or is it just for peer editing? It just sounds so official and all, that's why I'm asking.. And if we are turning this in, does that mean it has to be in MLA format?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Stephanie, I don't think it has to be in MLA format... just in the structure that Mrs. Glenn told us to put it in.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Stephanie, we don't have to turn it into her. She said we do peer editing like we usually do. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. OOOH okkk good :d
    thanx roshni!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  42. Stacey & Roshni, I love how you guys were like Stephanie, blah blah blah and Stephanie, blah blah blah
    lol.
    and thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOL hahah np stephanie :D... stephanie moon rite? lol

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yup yup. Stephanie Moon.
But aren't we going to turn this in someday? Becuase there's a rubric and everything.

    ReplyDelete
  45. o.O so many comments :))

eh, so to clear it up,
-people on the left column have to do the currents events on wednesday, and people on the right column have to do current events for next week.
-the researching is not formal, you just have to be familiar with the greek gods and the story perseus by edith hamilton...
-the interview/essay is due on this thursday, but not in MLA format.

haha:) i just needed some clarification :]

    ReplyDelete
  46. Absolutely hilarious!!...especially Jun Ha! Bing, bing, bing, you're right!! No MLA format, no questions from the interview, just the essay written or typed for peer editing. I'd hold onto the rough draft though because Mr. Vamplew might want you guys to do something else with it later. Oh yeah, speaking of research, I've got to teach you guys some things about that too. We'll be learning a lot in the next few days. Fasten your seat belts kids, this ride might get a little bumpy!! :)

    Mrs. G.

    ReplyDelete
  47. because we don't have to turn in the interview or the rubric... we dont have to turn in the map either right?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wait. I'm kind of confused. We have a rubric for the essay that tells us we have to turn in a map, questions, and essay. So we only have to turn in the essay? Then what's everything else for?

    ReplyDelete
  49. WHAT THE WRITING ISNT FOR AN OFFICIAL GRADE!
I JUST SPENT ALL DAY AND HALF OF YESTERDAY DOING IT.
    NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. After hyperventilation i have to ask, when will it be for an official grade?

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Danish: if you pick it as one the one of the 3 the u want 2 turn in, then it will be an official grade. for now it is just for completion.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ok, I'm on confused on the level where I don't even know what subject we're talking about.
SO, I really don't care about the current events because I just did mine anyways.
And I already did research for the greek gods and goddesses(I really should check here more often -_-)
My main problem is, is the map due with the rough draft of the essay? And will this be a language arts and AP human geo grade?
    Thx :D

    ReplyDelete
  53. i think its only a language arts grade, and idk about the map.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah, I'm kind of wondering if the map is also due on Thursday, if the essay isn't going to be final. Some requirements for the map also confuse me, but I think those questions should be left for Mr. Vamplew.

    ReplyDelete
  55. from the last comment mrs. glenn posted... i ASSUME that it is not necessary to make a map but i am not sure :?

    ReplyDelete
  56. So the interviewee essay is still due thursday, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  57. the interview is do thursday and its not an officail grade. rit? i was just making sure... oh and danish u crack me up. i was reading ur comment on how u used all caps saying it wasnt a grade and i laughed so hard that i snorted!!!!!!! wow thats embarrassing. but anyways the essay isnt an official grade but we r turning it in for mrs. glenn to keep? with the map? wow this is kinda confusing.... but i did all my other hw and this was the most confusing so i was just clearing things up.

    ReplyDelete
  58. So are we or are we not supposed to make a map? I don't understand why we wouldn't make a map if it was on the rubric.

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ Maliha: The interview is not the final grade. It's like regular essay's. We do the "lab" with them. Same goes for this one. We're going to peer edit.
@ Caitlin: The map should be the path of the person you interview. Don't make it up... Well make up little part. Don't put like Africa next to North America. We then know it's made up. lol... Well i hope i kinda helped... :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. wow Maliha!! you snorted lol. i spelt your name right!!!
I don't think we turn in the map because it's not for an official grade right?
    -Or am i wrong???

  62. ok.
and nope i'm not aka zoe. lol
    thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. @Caitlin
She said that the interview questions and answers don't need to be turned in, which is required in the rubric. I really don't know whats going on, but I'm just going to do the map because I know i'm going to regret it later.. I always do.

    ReplyDelete
  64. OREVA U DID SPELL MY NAME RIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wud hope so cuz its rit there and that wud be embarrasing if u spelled it wrong on here

    ReplyDelete
  65. Lol. yes i know.
now if only i can get it on gmail.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Can the map be printed but hust have lines and dates on it where and when the person immigrated? and does it have to be typed since its just gonna be a "lab?"

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ms. Glenn said it can be typed or Written because it's for peer editing.
But idk about the map....i'm sure that'll work though.

    ReplyDelete
  70. should there be 5 paragraphs for the essay due tommorrow or more?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Do we answer the questions and attach it with the prompt?
    ~Nizar

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  73. k thx
yuan--no only if we r turning it in as a final draft--

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  75. Good job guys!! Payam, see me tomorrow when you have a chance.

    Toodles guys,

    Mrs. G.

  76. Ms. Glenn I thought my current events essay was due today. So I finished my essay Sunday, I found out today I'm presenting next week. So can I still use the same article i'm using now.

    ReplyDelete
  77. @ Tej:
Yes. You can use the same article because it's still current enough.

    ReplyDelete
